Club W

After each of the five home football games, the Band Boosters host an after-party for students. They enjoy pizza, pop, music, and dancing to celebrate a week of hard work. The location is St. John’s fellowship hall building at 67 E Dublin Granville Road, and students can either walk, drive, or be dropped off after they return their uniforms and instruments to the school. The pick-up/end time is midnight.

Section Dinners

Because call time for Friday night football games is often an hour after school (depending on the game location), parents can host “section dinners” to feed a band section after school to send them on their way with full stomachs. These dinners are entirely student-led, meaning the section leaders will be the point of contact for how the dinners are run. These can be hosted at a house (ideally close to the school to limit travel time or lack of drivers/vehicles) or at the school in the cafeteria. Meals can be purchased or homemade, we just ask that special care be taken to remember the allergy and dietary restrictions of some section members. Some of these are life-threatening to the individual. Please share the menu with the section and if you are uncomfortable providing food that is appropriate for the allergy or dietary need please let the parent know so they are able to plan accordingly. Under Marching Band – Allerigies/Restrictions is a list by section. Questions regarding the section dinners should be directed to your student’s section leaders.

Homecoming

The band’s role in the homecoming game involves playing the processional march for the homecoming court during halftime. The normal marching band performance is usually done after the completion of the game.

Football Games

There are 10 regular season games during the season, 5 home and 5 away. The marching band performs at each of these games. Call time to meet after school on Friday varies depending on the distance to the away games, and will be communicated prior to the game. Standard practice is for students to stay at school for the section dinner, and remain for call time and the football game. Parent volunteers called the “Pit Crew” assist the band in transporting the uniforms, props, equipment, and instruments.

Halftime Hospitality

At home games, it’s tradition for the home band to provide cookies to the away team during the third quarter. We ask the students to bring in cookies to donate to the halftime hospitality tent to the south of the home stands. We divide up the games so that each class brings in cookies for one game. Stay tuned for information for which week your student’s class is signed up for!

Senior Night

We honor the band and football seniors before this football game. Seniors and their parents/family will be asked to meet at the south end of the field prior to the game, and will be announced in a short processional before the game begins. There are a few traditions the students enjoy, including giving the band seniors small decorated “cry towels” and bandanas that the seniors wear alongside their uniform to designate themselves.

8th Grade Night

At one of the football games, we invite 8th graders who are interested in marching band and color guard to march onto the field with the band and play a few of our marching band standards during halftime. The marching band performance will normally be performed after the game.

Last Blast

This is what we call the last awards night for marching band, our “banquet.” It includes one final performance of the band’s classic songs, which transitions into the awards ceremony for band members. There is a short reception with cake after the ceremony for the students and families.
