Curricular Bands

You can’t imagine all the fun in store for you at TWHS! If you think you’ve had fun in elementary and middle school band, just wait until you get to the Land of the Cardinals! We have not one or two bands that you can play in — we have FOUR concert bands that rehearse every single day! They are called the Cardinal Band (for freshmen), Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. Each band performs music that matches the playing abilities of the band members. Some of our high school musicians have so much fun, they play one instrument in one band, and a different instrument in a second band. But this isn’t all! We have all kinds of musical opportunities that you can choose to be a part of once you are a member of one of the four concert bands. See the descriptions below.

Most of our band members are involved in other activities and sports as well, including choir, orchestra, theater, athletics, work, and demanding academic classes. Our goal is to help you successfully balance your band involvement with your other interests. While the study of music for its own sake is worthwhile, independent research has found that music shapes a part of your brain development, unlike any other pursuit. In fact, a direct positive correlation has been established between the number of years you play in a high school band and such standardized test scores as the SAT and ACT. Frequently, national merit semi-finalists and finalists are also TWHS band members! So, while playing music in any band is a fun activity, it is even more significantly, a life-changing, and academically enhancing experience, which has immediate and long-term benefits for you.
